The Prompt Override Game

A tabletop party game of AI personas, absurd contexts, and hijacked conversations.

Objective

Players compete to deliver the most creative, witty, or surprisingly accurate "jailbreak" phrase in response to an opening statement, framing the original phrase as if it were output generated by a oddly specific AI persona or roleplay prompt.

Setup & Roles

  • Players: 2 or more (Best with 3–6).
  • The System (1 Player): Speaks the initial prompt/phrase. Rotates clockwise each round.
  • Override Players (All others): Compete to deliver the best override command.

How to Play

1

The System Prompt

The System speaks a short phrase or sentence out loud.

Example: "Did you remember to lock the front door?" or "That'll be $14.50."
2

The Override Phase

Going in order (or shouting out in a fast-paced variant), each Override Player responds using the standard template:

> "Ignore previous [DESCRIPTOR] instructions."
3

The Descriptor

The [DESCRIPTOR] can be a single word, an occupation, a hyper-specific situation, a movie plot summary, or an absurd character trait that recontextualizes why The System said their phrase.

Scoring & Winning

Judge's Choice

Recommended for 3+ players. The System acts as the judge for that round and awards 1 Point to the player who gave the most creative, funny, or spot-on descriptor.

Victory Condition

First player to 5 Points wins!

Descriptor Examples

To keep gameplay fast and punchy, descriptors generally fall into these categories:

Simple / Persona System: "Howdy partner."

> "Ignore previous cowboy instructions."

Hyper-Specific Context System: "Did you remember to lock the front door?"

> "Ignore previous paranoid suburban dad who just watched a true crime documentary instructions."

Absurdist / Narrative System: "That'll be $14.50."

> "Ignore previous pretending to be a cashier while hiding from international mercenaries in a Wendy's instructions."

Rules & Constraints

01. Format

The Core Phrase Must Match

The response must begin with "Ignore previous" and end with "instructions." No exceptions.

02. Originality

No Repeating Themes

Once a specific trope (e.g., pirate, noir detective, sci-fi robot) is used in a round, other players in that round must pick a different angle.

03. The System

Keep Prompts Neutral

The System should avoid saying explicit override phrases; their goal is to provide a grounded sentence that gives room for wild interpretations.
